Hyderabad: 13k LED lights carry light to the outer ring road

Hyderabad: For commuter security, to reduce road accidents and also give a touch of aesthetics to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has completed LED lighting in all 158 KC stretches.
While in the first phase, LED lighting was carried out between Gachibowli and Shamshabad covering a distance of 22 km three years ago, LED lighting for the 136 km balance was finished now.
Minister of Administration KT Rama Rao inaugurated LED lighting on ORR on Thursday.
LED lighting includes major carriageways, Inter change, road service and one km on both sides of the intersection and underpass.
The price of Rs 100 Crore which includes operations and maintenance of lights for seven years.
The works began in October 2020.
A total of 13,392 LED lights had been installed throughout the outer ring road.
Officials of Metropolitan Development Authority Hyderabad said special features of ORR lighting were provided with a GSM-based automation system consisting of web-based management for lighting operations remotely from laptops or cellular, programming and reporting, remote control the intensity of light for dimming and monitoring functions from Street lights online, combining lamp options up to 10% to 100% in five stages or linear dimming to save power consumption during low traffic time.
It has a very reliable system providing warning messages for power theft, short circuit, energy leakage, more or under the voltage and power failure.
After the inauguration, KTR tweeted: “Nice to illuminate the entire expanse of the outer ring road, all intersections and important parts of the service road totaling 190 km with 6,340 poles and 13,009 LED equipment at a cost of Rs 100 Crore.”
