Hyderabad: 23 people, allegedly involved in online betting during the IPL 2021 cricket match, was arrested here, police said on Wednesday.
Based on information that bets were in seven places on Tuesday, the police called 23 cricket widows, said Police Commissioner Cyberabad M Stephen Raveendra.
The police said they had confiscated from the boards of gambling, laptops, cellphones, TVs, among others, truly worth Rs 2.21 Lakh, and Rs 93 Lakh Cash.
Maha, the main bookie of Andhra Pradesh, who fled, organized bets in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, said Commissioner.
Opportunities / rating of gamblers / passengers can be seen from time to time in several online betting applications, provided by agents, police said.
Illegal cash payment transactions are online, and also in cash when the numbers are large, they said.
The bookie network gambling has trapped many young men in the city, which are addicted to playing high bets and losing a lot of money obtained with difficulty, added the police.
