Hyderabad: The growth of uncontrolled water hyacinth, is seen as the main factor for breeding mosquitoes and reducing dissolved oxygen in water, continues to attack the lake in several parts of the city.
Weed can be considered covering most of the water body like Shah Hatim Talab, Katora Houz, Lake Fox Sagar, Lake Kapra and Lake Banjara for several names.
“Hyacinth continues to return even after GHMC cleanses water every year.
Two members of my family suffer from fever and we are afraid if this is caused by mosquitoes in the area.
Mosquito residents only rise when water is covered with this weeds.
Officials must find a permanent solution,” said Farhan Sheik, a Golconda resident.
While the hyacinth has begun to grow in most 39 lakes that are previously cleaned, another tender round to eliminate the Hyacinth of 20 lakes is still in process.
GHMC has taken the project to remove the hyacinth in 39 lakes at its limits with an estimated cost of Rs 31 Crore.
“We have asked the authorities to overcome this problem several times, but there seems to be no permanent solution for this problem,” said Mohammed Ahmed, a social activist.
“Officials should have at least clean the hyacinth before ONST MONSUN,” he added.
While agreeing that the hyacinth in many lakes was found to coat even though cleaning it every year, GHMC Entomologist Dr.
Rambabu said, “In a recent meeting with the commissioner, all commissioners were asked to use the workforce and clean the water hyacinth every day containing spreads.”
