Hyderabad: Universities and colleges have advanced to identify and help Afghan students in the city.
With many of them almost at the end of their academic year, the university now reaches the ministry of external affairs that seek clarity and assistance for these students, staring at the uncertain future.
There are a total of 158 Afghan students at the University of Osmania (OU) where 136 are men and 22 are women.
Many of them have been through the Council of India for cultural relations on scholarships.
With many students who will complete their courses in September-October, they are worried that the financial crisis coupled with visa expiration will force them to return to their country, which is now taken over by the Taliban.
Because they are only released by a student visa, they will also not be able to take work to maintain their stay in India after their course ends.
Below, many plans to pursue further education as an alternative if the Indian government expand their visa.
“My family members have lost their jobs in Kabul and I don’t know what I will do after my course is over.
My scholarship will also be stopped after my course concludes.
What we really need is financial assistance,” said Rawnaq, a technical student in Ou.
Because uncertainty looks great, the university is open to expanding assistance to these students.
“We have made a group of WhatsApp from all Afghan students and arranged to hold them on August 21.
We are open to allowing them to live in our hostels following the guidelines of our central government.
We have reached the government on behalf of students who are looking for their clarity, “said Professor Appa Rao, Director, office of OU Foreign Relations.
Even the University of Hyderabad (UOH) is open to help students who enter and exit.
“Our hostels will be open to students if they can travel to India.
I am constantly related to all Afghan students to understand their misery,” said Siva Kumar, director, international affairs office in UOH.
