Hyderabad: Directorate of Income Intelligence (Mumbai Wing) won the Nissan Patrol SUV worth around Hospital 1 Crore from Malakpet in connection with a luxury car smuggling racket using the privilege to avoid customs.
The vehicle was registered in Manipur on behalf of the broker from Malakpet.
Dri Mumbai, along with Hyderabad officials, has launched ‘Operation Monte Carlo’ to break the smuggling racket first excavated in Mumbai.
The source in Mumbai Dri said the original car owner had not been confirmed.
The vehicle was two years old and the broker had bought it from a car dealer in New Delhi and paid through a check.
The vehicle was registered with Kangpokpi in Manipur.
Clean customs for car imports function up to 204% but the same thing is excluded to certain classes from diplomatic missions in India and their families.
Cars are imported from England, Japan and the UAE on behalf of diplomats.

Vehicle registration is carried out in other countries such as Manipur and then sold to buyers in India,” said an official.
