Hyderabad: The central station of crime from the city police has arrested two people from Uttar Pradesh accused of being involved in the cheating scandal.
The arrest was said to have arranged a bank account for some Nigerian citizens who would park their money in this account after deceiving individuals who were easily tricked through gift offers.
The duo was nabbed after complaints by the residents of Begumpet.
The complainant has stated that he has received a message about WhatsApp from someone who claims to be one of Dr.
Harry Robert from the United States.
Both then stay in touch for some time through various social media.
Robert told the complainant that he planned to come to India on vacation and that he would bring some prizes for the last.
The complainant was told by Robert that he would start from the US on July 11 and land in India the next day.
“Then, the complainant receives a call from someone who poses as an immigration officer, claims that Robert has been arrested at the airport and that he needs to pay money towards an anti-terrorist certificate, money laundering allegations among other things.
Concerns are convinced and transferred more than 9 Lakh to various accounts belonging to the fraudsters, “said Police Hyderabad.
Police said that Mohammed Naim and Mohammed Farookh – Bareilly’s two residents were arrested for their involvement in this racket.
The police confiscated a debit card and a savings book from the defendant’s ownership.
The duo was said to have collected a 10 percent commission of their Nigerian colleagues for helping them move money.
Both were arrested opening as many as 40 bank accounts.
