Hyderabad: Forest cover in Hyderabad has increased by 147% since 2011 and the city stands first in terms of the maximum increase compared to other megacitions in this country, according to the Indian Forest State Report (ISFR) 2021 released by Indian survey forests on Thursday.
However, in terms of overall forest cover, Hyderabad was fourth after Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.
The city saw its proximer increased by 48.66 SQKM, namely, from 33.15 km in 2011 to 81.81 square kilometers in 2021.
Three other megacitions, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, see their forest cover of 11%, 9 % and 26% respectively.
Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Kolkata lost substantial greenery.
ISFR monitors city forest cover based on digitizing forest boundaries.
In the digital boundary area in 2011, the overall green closure in Hyderabad only contributed 5.23%, the fourth lowest after Chennai.
In 2021, the percentage of Hyderabad of the total forest cover in connection with the digital boundary area was established at 12.9%, making it the second highest after Mumbai.
The breakdown of the hyderabad forest cover showed that the forest range (MDF) was quite dense in 17.68 square kilometers and open forests (from) at 64.13 square kilometers.
