Hyderabad: The Golconda Fort trench wall is damaged again

Hyderabad: When Hyderabad is eyeing a place on the coveted world heritage city list, one of the most iconic structures – Golconda fortresses – bloody from repeated damage.
In the latest incident, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has destroyed the part of the ancient parit trench wall (inside, wide trenches around enriched places) to make waterways.
Officials claimed it was the only way to drain excess water from Shahtam Cheruvu, located inside the Golconda place, and avoided the flood of colonies located around the heritage monument.
Damage to the castle ditch, more than 500 years have left an inheritance activist.
Especially because Golconda is a nationally protected monument and, under ancient monuments and archeological sites and still acts, no construction activities can be done within the 100 meter radius.
“This is not the first time GHMC uses heavy machinery to do the work of demolition around the fort.
Every time they plan to put a pipe or create a channel, the contractor uses bulldozers and earth drivers for the task, which causes cracks in the structure.
This will ultimately put the whole The fortress is at risk, “said Ilyas Ahmed Khan, an inheritance activist.
He added: “Instead of doing legacy damage, the GHMC must stop illegal construction that appears at the full tank level of Shahtam Cheruvu – the main reasons for flooding in the surrounding area.
Poor people who do not realize that they are sold land encroachment now facing Brunt.
The government must conduct a survey And move these families.
“Hit the authorities over” complete neglect for inheritance structures in the city “, P Anuradha Reddy, City Conventor of Intach Ruja has become a” standard procedure for GHMC “to take such work around the monument.
“We went for a recent heritage streets when we saw this work happening on the side of the Fortress of Jamali Darwaza.
The GHMC has done a similar job in the past too, without consulting an Indian Archaeological Survey (ASI),” he said.
In 2019, for example, the ASI filed a complaint against GHMC, with Golconda police, accused that land work and rock extraction caused severe irreversible damage to the fortress wall.
This time also, the ASI official claimed that the civil body bought permission to build up and forget and make channels around Golconda, without mentioning a certain place.
“When we learned about the use of heavy machines, we asked them to stop immediately.” To ensure there is no further damage to the structure, we deploy our staff on the site.
The work is now being done manually, without earthmovers or heavy machinery, “said M Naveen Kumar, the conservation assistant was responsible for Golconda.
He, however, did not say if any action will begin with the civil body for the damage that has been done.
In their defense , GHMC staff maintain that all permissions are in place for ongoing work.
“We have required permits and certificates without objections from breast milk.
The channel is being made to remove the blockage from the old channel and drain water from Shahaham Cheruvu, “said an GHMC employee oversawing work.
