Hyderabad: Rain not only creates chaos in many parts of the old city but has also left all the pools and reservoirs overflow.
Likewise, water from Mir Natural Tank flooded Zoological Park Nehru, forcing animal caregivers to take immediate steps to drain water for animal safety.
Officials at the zoo request GHMC & Department of Irrigation to come out with corrective steps and permanent solutions to divert flood water.
“We have discussed with the Department of Irrigation and GHMC officials about the possibility to divert excess water without entering the zoo,” said Zoo Officials.
Before this, Dr Sidhanand Kukrety, director of the Taman Zoo and VVL Subhadra Devi, curator, Zoological Park Nehru took a stock of situations in the park.
They have examined the Safari Park and Singoji pool area, which is flooded with flood water.
Water is drained with the help of a diesel engine.
Dam-debris are removed manually.
“All animals are safe in their respective cages.
The veterinary team maintains continuous health on the health of wild animals,” said Subhadra Devi Toi.
Authorities said that all efforts were taken by zoo officials and field staff in maintaining hygienic conditions and draining water from all closes.
Despite the rain, more than 2,700 visitors visit Zoological Park Nehru on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bahadurpura and its surroundings also witnessed waterlogging and inundation which caused discomfort for motorists and residents.
Water gradually subsides from the lowland area.
