Kolkata: For the first time in the existence of the century, Tricolor will be wrapped in part of the Victoria Memorial Hall.
Although the flag was appointed with the VMH yard twice a year on the day of independence day and the Republican, did not blew on the development of the Indo-Saracenic revival style marble which was conceptualized by Viceroy Lord Curzon India to commemorate Queen Victoria.
VMH was designed by architect William Emerson who also designed Mumbai’s Crawford Market and Allahabad’s All Saints Cathedral.
On the occasion of the birthday of 125 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23, VMH was almost wrapped in a national flag during the projector mapping show.
But this is the first time a tricolor giant proportion will be rolled with the North Fasad facing Maidan on the 75th Independence Day.
The flag will be hung on the VMH terrace using a cable network.
The edge of the flag, measuring 150 feet, will be about 70 feet above the ground while the bottom edge will be 20 feet on the ground with enough head room to leave the entrance to the blocked hall.
Inside, an exhibition at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is underway.
“The 150ftx50ft flag weighs 70kg, made by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, will include most of the Fasad VMH.
The HMI team will arrive on Thursday to repair the cable on the terrace with the perfect toughness and tension to ensure the edge of the flag remains straight and does not sag.
When rolled on August 15, it would be a sight to be seen, “said VMH Curator Jayanta Sengupta.
Indiatourism Kolkata collaborated on the event.
Captain of the HMI Principal, Captain Jai Kishan said the 7,500sqft national flag was arranged to pay tribute to all freedom fighters on Indian Independence Day and has been opened at MT Renok in West Sikkim on April 25 by a 125-year-old team climbing four peaks in 125 hours for four days as respect for Netaji on the birthday of the 125th birth.
“To carry the flag, we made it in three 50ftx50ft segments which we then followed at the Summit.
This exercise aims to inspire people with some positive vibrations during this negative Covid period,” he said.
