Noida: Eight men have been arrested from a fake call center in Sector 62 for allegedly making calls to US citizens involved in the purchase of drugs and extorting them with threats informing the investigation institutions there about their cartels in Columbia and Mexico.
The police said they also partnered with US hackers, who would install malware on ordinary citizen computers and route all calls about complaints to Sham’s call center in Noida.
The call center, which operates from the Ithum Tower in Sector 62, is owned by one Vinod Lashera, which cannot be traced.
It is Vinod who will search for all data related to US citizens, which will then be used to target them.
US citizens who will be targeted by this gang will be asked to pay in dollars or through a gift card, which will then be converted into rupees.
Not immediately clear how gang managed to find data from those who bought illegal drugs from the cartel.
“They will claim to have a detailed account details to buy drugs from cartels in Columbia and Mexico.
Because the target will get a conscious and fear of an agent’s investigation, they will give up on demands,” Additional DCP said (Noida) Ranvijay Singh.
Police said the defendant would also offer technical services to those whose computers were hacked by gangs in the US.
“Someone who has been hacked will make a call to sort the problem and 5 in the morning, “said a police officer.
The source said the gang was made anywhere around Rs 2.5 lakh a day.
Eight young men who were arrested all joined the call center over the past few months.
The police are looking for Vinod, who runs the company by name, Technomart Private Limited.
“Vinod lakhera has been identified as a data source, he will contact other data providers based in India and abroad,” additional DCP said.
