I pretend to make my husband feel good

Query: I pretend to like English films when I really hate them because of my husband.
It’s been 3 years we haven’t watched a single Hindi movie together because he felt Hindi films couldn’t be good.
I now feel I should be more honest with him about my preference.
Is it too late?

Response by Dr.
Rachna K Singh: Hi, we understand what you experience.
In every relationship, people can have different preferences because there are no two people.
Realizing that all your tastes cannot be similar to your partner are very important in accepting yourself as a unique individual.
While honesty is very important in any relationship, as well as understanding that honest is not easy, especially when you are afraid of feeling judged.
While your partner can enjoy more English films than you, he might appreciate your happiness more than his enjoyment.
Make it understand your preferences anytime in your life better than suffering or compromise secretly.
What might help is to find a balance between both of your preferences in everything starting from films to food, to other activities, so you both feel valued and loved in relationships.
We understand your doubts, but it is important to understand that open and honest communication is the key to a healthy relationship.
Having a relationship where you can communicate with your partner at every point in life is very important for long-term happiness.
If at any point you feel that your needs are not understood by your important people, whether it is for small things such as the selection of movies, or a great decision that changes life, it is important to evaluate your relationship and direction that occurred.
Often in life, we are so wrapped in trying to please others, that we forget that we are the people we have to care for first.
While the relationship is a two-way path, both you and your partner must understand that this is accompanied by the responsibility for treating your own happiness and also others.
We suggest you sit with yourself first to know the things you enjoy and your reason enjoy it and then communicate with your partner.
Remember, just as important to be able to enjoy yourself as well as your partner.
While we understand your fear, remember, relationships are built with mutual love and respect.
Hopefully this helps.
