New Delhi: Search by the Department of Income Tax on Dainik Bhaskar Group follows allegations of sucking funds by groups that have interests in the media, power, textiles and real estate other than the names of several members related to promoter trimming in Panama Papers, said government sources on Thursday.
The tax department’s probe has focused on charges of tax evasion by the group allegedly claiming false costs and purchases using the Shell entity.
The source accuses the group has a “paper company” floating for this purpose, with employees as a shareholder and director of the entity.
The money allegedly sucked back to various personal and business investments, in the form of premium shares and foreign investment through Mauritius-based entities.
The search triggered a massive controversy, with the problem of taking political colors and the government came across from the opposition to “suffocate” the media.
Resources say operations in 32 places, which consist of residence and business, follow the analysis of the tax department database, banking and other questions.
Asked about the accusations of Congress on searches motivated politically in response to Dainik Bhaskar Reportage on alleged death reporting, information and broadcasting Minister of Broadcasting Singh Thakur said: “Agents do their own work and no interference to them.” Search, which began at around 5:30 Morning and continued until night, was carried out in places spread in Mumbai, Delhi, Bhopal, Indore, Jaipur, Korgba, Noida and Ahmedabad.
While the group, which has an annual turnover of more than Rs 6,000 Crore, has more than 100 companies throughout its business, the tax department does not reveal that the focus is on certain certain businesses.
DB Corp.
Ltd., which publishes Dainik Bhaskar, is a superior company.
Coal-based power generation business is carried out on behalf of DB power.
