Bengaluru: Sleuth income tax on Thursday conducted a search in various locations throughout Karnataka in connection with tax evasion and gathering disproportional wealth with sources of income.
The raids took place in more than 50 places in Bengaluru, Bagalkot, Davestavi, Vijayapura and Davangere.
A source said the contractor in the Irrigation Department was the main target of a coordinated search, based on a sheet of information obtained from people in the department.
In Bengaluru, the residence of Umesh Ayanur, who was a personal assistant (PA) to B Yediyurappa during his tenure when the minister of chairman was sought by I-T officials.
Sleuth was reported to have restored four bags of documents from the residence of Umesh, which is located near the Bhashyam circle.
Six other locations related to Umesh relatives were also raided.
Umesh, who was once a member of the BMTC crew, joined the Yediyurappa team after being referred to by his partymen in Shivamogga.
At that time, Yediyurappa was an opposition leader.

Umesh allegedly has a close relationship with several contractors associated with the State Water Resources Department, the I-T department’s source said.
Yediyurappa said the raid was “not politically motivated” and he must find out “only through the media”.

He also worked for CM Basavaraj Bommai.

The Chairman of the Minister of Bukavaraj Bommai said he knew nothing about the search.
He said he would react only after getting the right information.
Residence and offices from several Charter and Industrialist accountants located in the layout of Chamundeshwari and Sahakarnagar were also raided.
The I-T team searched the residence of the contractor D UPPAR in Bagalkot City, 575km from Bengaluru.
Raids took place at all locations when the last report entered.
Tax officers reported to seek differences in the main irrigation scheme in Cauvery and Krishna Basins, implemented by the State Water Resources Department for the past two years.
These projects involve thousands of crores rupees.
Towards the end of Yediyurappa’s term as cm, the opposition congress has demanded a thorough investigation of all irrigation contracts given during the regime.
I-T senior officials remain tight and do not react to the media query.
Meanwhile, the former Minister of HD Kumaraswamy said, “Ragging on the Yediyurappa assistant suggested everything is not good at BJP.
