New Delhi: The Income Tax Department (I-T) on Sunday said that he had issued a refund of Rs 51,531 Crore to nearly 23 Lakh taxpayers between April and August 23, pointing to a sharp decline so far.
Between April and August 2520, the refund of income tax was paid to more than 25.5 Lakh taxpayers and added to RS 95,853 Crore.
The government does not provide comparative data, but officials in the past blame interference in the tax portal to slow down payments.
In a series of tweets, the department said that, so far, 93% of the refund claims made in return for assessment of 2020-21 (FY2019-20) have been processed.
“In the past week, refunds of more than Rs 15,269 Crore have been issued to be credited to taxpayers immediately,” he said.
Last year, the government focused on refund, which rose 42% to Crore Rs 2.6 lakh and paid to almost 2.4 crore taxpayers.
“It can be noted that this includes a refund accelerated in a series of steps that provide assistance to taxpayers during the pandemic,” the income tax department tweeted at the end of the night of the night.
The authorities communicate with taxpayers to find responses in cases where refunds have not been paid due to adjustments, defects, or incompatibility of bank accounts so that payments can be accelerated.
“The department asked for taxpayers to respond online quickly, so that itrs (income tax refund) in AY 20-21 cases can be processed quickly.
The department has also started processing ITRS 1 & 4 for vv.
2021-22 (FY2020-21 ) And refund, if any, will be issued directly to the taxpayer bank account, “he added.
