Chennai: Smourge of Match-Fixing refused to die.
The former Tamil Nadu R Sathish allrounder was approached on social media to improve the match earlier this month and he was offered Rs 40 Lakh.
The 41-year-old player told the Toi that he refused the offer and continued to file a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the control board for Cricket in India (Bengaluru) and Bengaluru Police.
Sathish said that ‘approach’ was made by an individual named Bunny Anand on Instagram.
“It was earlier this month I got a message on my Instagram account.
I immediately rejected the offer and I thought it was my job to report on this problem.
I told the BCCI Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) and on the advice they went to file a complaint with Police a few weeks ago, “Sathish told Toi on Tuesday.
At present, Sathish is part of the Tamil Champion Nadu Premier (TNPL) Champions Chepauk Super Gillies.
He previously played for IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians, Kings Xi Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Also learned that the individual concerned has claimed that two players have agreed to offer.
However, it cannot be ascertained whether the offer made for Sathish is to improve the match in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
“I don’t specifically you know anything about repairing TNPL games,” Sathish added.
TNPL mired in controversy a few years earlier when the accusation of spot fixing and fixing matches had appeared.
However, BCCI has cleared the league of corruption charges because they cannot find conclusive evidence to prove the malpractice that occurs.
Head of BCCI ACU Shabir Khandwawala also said that the unit will investigate this problem.
“Sathish told us and ICC this month that he was offered money to improve the match.
Because we are only facilitators in such cases, we advise him to submit a police complaint.
He has done it and now the police will investigate and do what is needed, “Khandwawala said.
Sathish said that he was ready to work with the authorities.
“I have to clean this problem, so I raised the complaint.
Now, if the police and authorities want to investigate this problem, I open to work with them.
We need to keep the game clean,” Sathish said.
