Milan: Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not play for AC Milan until after the international window when he recovered from a knee injury, Stefano Pioli coach said on Sunday.
Advanced Veteran Ibrahimovic, who will be October 40, has come out of action since hurting his left knee during Milan’s 3-0 league victory in May.
Pioli hopes to have him available when Serie A is back in mid-September after a break for 2022 World Cup qualifiers, which began at the end of this month.
“He is better physically.
He hasn’t rejected the squad but next week it will be very important because there will be a lot of ball work,” Pioli told reporters ahead of Milan’s opening match at Samay.
“If everything goes and I hope he can return to training with us (troops) during the international break.” Injury Ibrahimovic also means that he missed Euro 2020 after exiting international retirement to play Sweden in the tournament.
Pioli can rely on another old hand on the 34-year-old Olivier Giroud to lead the line against the Samp after French forward seemed in pre-season after the signing of Chelsea.
