Ludhiana: In the “big initiative” to save a valuable life of a heart attack by starting treatment in the gold period in Ludhiana, the Indian Medical Research Council Project (ICMR) funded for heart intervention for a heart attack will be launched in the district on Saturday.
As part of the project, the use of a drug tenecteplase to dissolve blood clots in the heart provides free to patients at 11 centers.
Investigating Details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that a heart attack was a condition when part of the heart muscle did not get enough oxygen and if this condition was not treated as soon as possible, it could cause death or other fatal consequences.
He said that this project was being carried out in 12 districts where two were in Punjab including Ludhiana where 11 speaking centers had been established with well-equipped facilities to provide the best care for patients suffering from a heart attack in the gold period.
He said that these centers included civil hospitals, Krishna hospitals, Hwa Hospital, Pohir Rch, Sarabha Hospital, SDH Jagraon, Payal SDH, Samralas, Life Care Hospital and Macchiwara.
He said that the doctor and paramedics of this hospital were trained in DMCH for the past year.
Dr.
Bishav Mohan from Dairanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) said that coronary heart disease, especially myocardial infarction ST (STEMI or heart attack) was the main cause of death globally and in India.
He said that with this goal to save valuable lives, ICMR has produced this project by increasing awareness about heart attacks, timely management and providing the best medical facilities for rural areas.
DMCH Doctor said that 11 centers are now ready to handle heart patients and after diagnosis and initial care in these places for three hours, patients will be referred to further centers for further treatment.
He said that tenecteplase which is the latest drug used to dissolve blood clots in the heart is usually not available at primary and secondary health care centers because of high costs (around RS 25000-RS 30000) will be provided free in these centers.
He stated that at 70% of cases, this drug could not be given due to the arrival of late and to change the scenario, the awareness of these symptoms was made by these centers in their area.
Furthermore, DMCH Ludhiana, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana and Rajindra Hospital Patiala will coordinate for further management of these appointed spoke centers or patients undergoing treatment there can be referred to other medical institutions, he added.
He said that the WHATAPP group has been made where specialists will be available for 24 hours for each type of consultation regarding maintenance.
