ICMR repeats concerns about the use of molnupiravir in covid treatment

New Delhi: The use of molnupiravir anti-virus drugs has a risk that must be warned, health officials say it underlines serious concerns about rampant, irrational and excessive drugs in the treatment of Covid-19.
“We have extensive discussions among national experts and review any data available from three experiments – one in 1433 patients in the US; one stated before the time was stopped for business reasons and others ongoing.
There are 12 registered clinical trials In the Indian clinical test registry, which starts or will start.
The last conclusion is that Molnupiravir has a certain risk that guarantees being cautious in its use.
The experts present at the meeting argue that there is a rampant and irrational use of pills.
Efforts must be made to limit Its use as known and unknown endanger far beyond the benefits that are claimed, “the Indian Board of Medical Research Director General (ICMR) General Balram Bhargava.
“Proof of synthesis currently available in terms and members in round voice agree that the drug does not deserve to be included in the Covid National Medicine Guidelines,” he added.
This drug is currently not part of the national care protocol determined by the center, even because it has been approved by the drug controller General India.
Officials stated that evidence arose and developed continuously reviewed and will dictate the decision in the future.
This is the second time in a week that the ICMR head has warned of the use of drugs currently prescribed by many doctors for patients under insulation or home care.
Last week, ICMR showed serious concerns with the use of drugs in children, pregnant and lactating women and those who were reproductive.
Bhargava says that the use of molnupiravir can cause teratogenicity, mutagenicity, and can also cause damage to cartilage and can also damage the muscles.
More importantly, if this drug is given to a man or woman, contraception must be used for three months, because the child conceived during that period may have a problem with the teratogenic influence.
Teratogenicity is the ability to cause defects in developing fetuses, while mutagenicity refers to permanent infectious changes in cell genetic material structures.
In India, experts of the national task force have for the third time unanimously rejected the inclusion of drugs in the Covid-19 Indian care guidelines.
While pills have been approved in the UK and Denmark, it has not been made for Covid treatment guidelines also exist.
Urging the medical brotherhood to excessive prescription drugs, officials said showing off the use of drugs could cause complications and medical costs.
“RePPAAR drugs or drugs needed are limited and this is those who have the support of science and evidence at this time.
Tomorrow something new comes, it will be added or dropped.
Please believe and we will ask our medical brotherhood to follow rational guidelines.
Please don’t overdo it.
The synthesis of what is best for us is on our care protocol, “said members of the Niti Aayog VK Paul.
Paul also quotes how non-rational steroid use causes high mucoricosis incidents during the second surge and urges people to use drugs only if needed.
