New Delhi: Nearly one of the five covid-positive travelers testing at IGI Airport is infected with Omicron variants, tests conducted at the Institute of Genomic and Integrative Biology (IGIB).
IGIB is one of the main laboratories in which sequencing genomes are being carried out to identify variants responsible for Covid-19 in international travelers.
A senior scientist said every day 15-20 samples were sorted in IGIB and almost 20% positive for Omicron variants.

Three new cases of this variant, which three times more contagious than Delta variants, are confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Initially, Omicron variants were limited to international travelers, but epidemiologists said the sudden surge in the case of Covid-19 during the past week showed that it might have spread in the community too.
“We have 17 Omicron patients who entered the hospital.
From them, three do not have a history of travel,” a senior doctor at Lok Nayak Hospital told toi.
The state-run hospital is set for isolation and treatment of omicron cases in Delhi.
