Igims-Patna saw an increase in pancreatic cancer patients

Patna: Institute of Medical Sciences Indira Gandhi (IGIMS) has witnessed an increase in the number of patients suffering from pancreatic cancer and colon cancer.
Health experts said that many patients avoided came to hospitals because Covid-19 years ago, their problems increased various.
Dr.
Manish Mandal’s Igims supervisor said about 100 patients who came to his department every month, at least 40 had cancer problems.
“The amount is less early.
However, there are at least 10% increase in the number of patients after easing of covid restrictions,” added Dr.
Mandal.
A training program was held at a hospital on Saturday where Dr.
Mandal said that the number of end-stage cancer patients increased, the operation had become easier with the laparoscopic method, unlike before when operations were being carried out by opening the stomach.
“In the laparoscopic method, it was finally cut and joined using the stapler technique.
As a result, patients operated in less time and less blood revenues were obtained during operation,” added Dr.
Mandal.
In the inauguration of the workshop, Director of Igims Dr.
N R Biswas said pancreatic cancer and intestinal cancer can be treated with a telescope with a low-level telescope through the laparoscopic method at the hospital’s surgical gastroenterology department.
Dr.
Siddhartha Hazarika, who came from Guwahati and had received training in the previous Onco AIims-Delhi and Pune surgery department, also shared his knowledge and experience with the trainees.
“Previously used to cut two to three hours to cut and join the intestine of patients with the stapler technique.
But it was being done in a few minutes now,” said Dr.
Hazarika.
Organizing the Secretary of the Workshop, Dr.
Sanjay Kumar, said that around 50 surgeons from outside the institution also participated in workshops and asked to provide further about their knowledge to their colleagues.
