Letter: Six years after it gets approval and four years of academic work, the Institute of Information Technology India (iiit), letters, can only get half of the actual requirements of the land needed to develop campuses for the National Reputation Institute.
This institution has been allocated 28 hectares of land near Kamrej against the minimum requirements of a plot of 50 hectares to develop basic facilities as per direction to the information of Union (MHRD) Human Resources (MHRD).
According to the scheme issued by the government for IIIit, a minimum 50 hectare land is needed to develop classrooms, laboratories, hostels, quarters, sports activities, auditoriums and research laboratories.
The scheme further states that 100 hectares can be used to develop facilities for training, advancing academic research, commercial research, guesthouse, demonstration theater, incubator and recreation.
It provides an alternative to regulate several facilities in other locations that maintain minimum requirements in 50 hectares.
In land parcels given, the Institute can only develop campus for academic work.
Meanwhile, it has become a point of discussion among students who learn from home but increase worries through email and telephone calls.
A group of students raised this problem to the Ministry of Education and the District Letter Authority.
“The Institute has received far less than the minimum land required.
This will endanger the prospect of future growth of the Institute and students,” said a student with anonymity requirements.
IIIT operates from the current Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) campus.
This institution only has nine regular faculties and the same number of SVNIT teachers is doing class.
The campus placement is handled by SVNIT at this time.
Because of global pandemic, this institute works in online mode.
IIIT previously suggested land near Khajod and others in Dumas Road but for some reason the land was not resolved.
“We got 28 acre land and our efforts continued to get more.
We tried to get government land side by side but unfinished,” said J Bhat, Director, IIIit.
