Iiser Pune Team Wins a Gold Medal in Synthetic Biology Competition Igem

Pune: The team consisting of 12 students from the Institute of Education and Research in India, (Iiser) Pune has won a gold medal in the synthetic biology competition Igem 2021 produced for 4-14 November.
Foundation International Genetically Engineered Machine (IGEM) is an independent non-profit organization that works towards the advancement of synthetic biology, education, and competition.
‘As part of their participation in this competition, the team worked over the past few months on the research project.
The aim of this project is to develop a sustainable model to synthesize chemical compounds using two-cultural bacterial strains, thus avoiding methods involving petrochemical carbon transmitters or plant biomass intensive resources.
The team titled This Approach “Synbactory”.
As proof of the concept, the team designed bacterial culture to produce Butanol, chemicals with applications as fuel, official release words from Iiser Pune.
The student team from Iiser Pune includes Ashwin Uday, Masaal Bedi, Sanjana Vasanth, Ashli ​​Jain, Namasivayam Gomathi Sankar, Likhith Chandragiri, Vidisha Hate, Arsh Shaikh, Soorya Narayan, Akash Dutta, Arya Narnapatti and Jason Joby.

Igem competition, annual synthetic biology events and throughout the world aimed at undergraduate students, as well as high school and postgraduate students give them the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by dealing with the daily problems facing the world.
The multidisciplinary team works together to design, build, test, and measure their own design systems using biological spare parts that can be exchanged and standard molecular biology techniques.
The Igem team worked inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.
Every year nearly 6,000 people dedicate their summer to Igem and then unite in the fall to present their work and compete at the annual event, explain the official IGEM website.
