Varanasi: Indian Institute of Technology, University of Banaras Hindu (IIT-BHU) will collaborate with the French international partners in the national mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), where the French scientist will visit India next year.
In addition, to increase this goal, IIT-BHU has collaborated to build a lithium-plus battery solution to replace the diesel generator set (DG) on the ship.
Director of IIT-BHU Prof Pramod Kumar Jain said, “Conference recently held to the overall recovery of river health showed a greater contribution to social and environmental solutions.” He said that Varanasi is located on the edge of the Ganga, and in recent years, it has been observed that water has been very polluted.
The Indian government has taken various initiatives for cleaner ganga and it has become an extraordinary approach but also, it is also important to understand the root causes of pollution.
“Therefore, our faculty members, students and various experts come to discuss and implement concrete solutions to the health recovery of the Ganges River.
It is important to conduct expert discussions to help researchers to develop a holistic approach and deserve to achieve our core goals,” he said.
IIT-BHU recently held a two-day international conference on the ‘Health River: Assessment for recovery in hybrid mode.
The core goal of the conference is to start a dialogue about Ganga – Varuna and Asssi – and emphasize the recovery of these tributaries for complete health recovery towards Ganga.
In addition, this conference also aims to collect, compile, and understand all facts and numbers associated with tributaries who play an important role and will further help in their health restoration.
The conference was attended by experts from various institutions such as IIT-Guwahati, Iit-Gandhinagar, Iit-Delhi and Bhu.
All stakeholders, including government departments, city institutions, representatives of civil society, French experts along with other international experts were invited to active participation at the conference.

P Gille from France talked about collaboration between India and France for restoring the health of the river and appreciated the efforts of the Indian scientific community and the national mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
They talked about pollutant movements at a meeting of tributaries.
NMCG Director RR Mishra discussed the NMCG initiative, and the Chairperson of the UPPCB JPS Rathore talked about ongoing initiatives taken for health recovery from the Varuna River.
Some of the main points discussed during the conference include identifying major pollution problems that need to be addressed in Varuna and Assi and to be included in rejuvenation activities, compiling and analyzing all data, facts, and significant numbers for Varuna’s health restoration and assi, Law IDE / Proposals / concepts of domestic and international experts to learn about good practices or approaches throughout the world that can be contextualized and replicated in these tributary children, assessing innovative and contemporary technology for recovery of the two tributaries, and identification of social lines and Administration towards the destination.
During the conference, stakeholders and experts suggest different solutions categorized under four industrial water pollution, domestic water pollution, agricultural water pollution, and groundwater.
All solutions will then be analyzed by experts and are implemented based on the input and approval of multi-stakeholder group members.
In addition, demonstrations and pilot projects will also be followed up, potentially replicate and increase problems.
Looking for national and international expert advice, the first step to achieving its goal is two Ghats – Shashtri Ghat in the Varuna River and Sankhat Mochan Ghat on the Sungai ASI – have been chosen and proposed to be developed for bathing purposes.

Prabhat Kumar Singh said that the NMCG initiative in an extraordinary ganga, but now is the time to start the initiative in Ganges’ tributaries to restore the health of the river.
“We will prepare a detailed report on the results of the conference and share detailed recommendations with NMCG,” he said.
