Mumbai: A group of alumni from Iit-Bombay, who graduated from Hostel 5 – one of the oldest at the Institute – has gathered in his first initiative for project enhancement projects.
About 170 members, from all over the world and crossed batches – the oldest batch of 1964 and the youngest who graduated in 2019 – all of the hostels have contributed around Rs 5.5 Crore to renovate and improve sophisticated dormitory facilities with sophisticated – Area Area and toilet facilities.
While alumni of different batches have made some contributions in the past, this might be the first initiative, where certain hostel alumni come together for projects to improve the quality of life at Hostel 5, also referred to as penthouses by students now.
This project is a joint initiative between the Institute and Alumni Association.
Happy! You have managed to throw your votelogin to see Rulthananjay Saheba, a member of the IIT-B alumni Association Board, said that the idea came when one of his classmates from Batch 77 visited the hostel and shared several pictures.
“Many of us wanted to do something for the hostel at that time.
We decided to appeal to all those who had graduated from the dormitory for years.
The idea appeared somewhere in mid-December and in February we met our target RS 5 , 5 crore, “he said.
With more than 200 rooms at the hostel, the group has planned to reach more than 2,000 alumni.
The plan is to build additional toilets in the same hostel and study area as Wi-Fi coverage and other advanced facilities, he said.
He said that dormitory life played an important role in their education and development and where they had formed deepest and meaningful friendship.
Director of the Institute, Chaudhuri Subhasi, said, “H-5 students have now expressed sharp interest in improvement because they will significantly improve the quality of dormitory life.
The increase in infrastructure will run far to advance the welfare of students.”
