IIT Bombay launches an art program, science and liberal engineering

Mumbai: Specialized Bachelor of Science (BS) program is now a reality in IIT-Bombay.
Paving Way To increase the flexibility and option of interdisciplinary graduates, the Premier Institute launched a unique liberal, science and engineering (Lase) program.
This may be the first IIT in this country to offer this liberal curriculum on liberal arts lines, which are in mode.
Selected students will get the opportunity to graduate with BS degrees in engineering, natural science, social science, art, and design.
Apart from these four choices, students can also design their own specialties, said Director of the Institute, Chaudhuri Subhasis.
The batch that will join the B Tech program this year, will be able to choose this program at the end of the first year in 2022, he said, adding that they would rather have students on campus to launch this program.
While the Institute plans to introduce only 30 seats in the first year, the receipt method has not been resolved, said Prof.
Anurag Mehra, which is a co-convenor committee that makes the Lase program concept.
“There may be basic conditions in the cumulative performance index or talent test, but a process will be designed soon, he added.” We have offered extensive options such as engineering, social and natural, and even art and design, but if some students believe that the course choice is They don’t fit on the existing tracks, they can define their own way.
However, this will be greatly based on faculty suggestions, “said Mehra.
While the committee worked on designing programs for several years, the Institute board and the Senate agreed it after the recommendations were submitted.
The students would only spend four years on campus, including the first year of B Tech.

Students Lase must complete their subject combination with the help of their academic advisors at the end of the second year, the Director said at the social media post.
Students will take several prerequisite courses but instead have a large pool of special choices and open to selected.
“They will have the freedom to specialize in the latest interdisciplinary fields in this program: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and EDTECH or ENGINEERING HEALTHCARE (in engineering) or biology (in natural science) are an enabling example.
All students will also complete the final year project , “Director said.
“Interdisciplinary problems from climate change to AI to global pandemics, a combination of broad foundations and technical depths is very necessary.
Seeing the best institutions globally show that such combinations are very effective for innovation and leadership throughout the discipline,” he said.
The Institute is also in the process of revising their undergraduate curriculum and makes it more flexible.
