PANAJI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa along with the Goa Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will conduct research that will continue to monitor air quality in the state with the aim of developing forecasting tools.
This study will also assist in planning for improving air quality by suggesting appropriate intervention.
In the first six months, IIT Goa will emphasize the available data analysis that plans to use various data sciences and machine learning methods to develop forecasting tools that will predict air quality.
Various techniques will be used to study the possibility of correlation between the amount measured and the relevant machine learning techniques will be explored to make the forecasting model.
The Institute will also carry out a comprehensive understanding of air quality data throughout the country using a low-cost sensor network for more efficient data collection and analysis.
The IIT Goa proposal stated that for this initial emphasis will find the right sensors and develop methods for monitoring real-time air quality.
This sensor will be employed closer to one of the hotspots.
“It is estimated that it has data collected for one year so that the sensor response to season variations can also be captured.
The last six months of the project will be dominant to analyze data and complete the estimated model for sensor-based networks,” the state of the IIT Goa proposal.
The Institute said that collaboration with GSPCB can be expanded in the future to various topics including, understanding of hotspots and relevant source distribution.
This will involve detailed PM analysis which will be collected using home techniques for future analysis.
“Finding the sources of various emissions and influence on air quality is needed to cause sustainable impacts on air quality and comprehensive studies of the concentration of Ultrafine PM in an urban environment.
The current measurement is not emphasized on Ultrafine PM because of the difficulty in measurement.
Even though Ultrafine PM is one of the main causes Premature death due to pollution, “the proposal was stated.
