Guwahati: Guwahati Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) campus declared the detention zone by Kamrup Administration on Wednesday, after 93 positive Covid cases detected on campus since 30 December.
A spokesman for the IIT-G said about 95% per cent of infected was students, except for some family of teaching staff.
“Bachelor students are allowed to return to the IIT-G campus from 30 December and the number of Covid cases has increased at the Institute since then,” said a spokesman for the K Iyer Parameswara.
A command incurred by Kailash Deputy Commissioner Kailash Kailash N has forbidden and out on the IIT-G campus except the circumstances that cannot be avoided.
Orders have come to the effects directly from Wednesday, until the area is declared safe.
Meanwhile, the North Guwahati Circle officer has been asked to monitor all situations at the Institute and ensure that food availability, sanitation, health checks and sample collection are not blocked.
“Six members of the faculty members are at the Medical College Medical Hospital and the rest have shifted to the Covid Care Center on the IIT-G campus, which is now managed by the district government,” said Iyer.
“It has been decided that students who want to leave campus and go home, can do it.
But this is voluntary, we don’t force anyone to leave campus,” added Iyer.
