Guwahati: Guwahati Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) campus declared the detention zone by Kamrup Administration on Wednesday, after 93 positive Covid cases detected on campus since 30 December.
A spokesman for the IIT-G said about 95% per cent of infected was students, except for some family of teaching staff.
“Bachelor students are allowed to return to the IIT-G campus from 30 December and the number of Covid cases has increased at the Institute since then,” said a spokesman for the K Iyer Parameswara.
A command incurred by Kailash Deputy Commissioner Kailash Kailash N has forbidden and out on the IIT-G campus except the circumstances that cannot be avoided.

“It has been decided that students who want to leave campus and go home, can do it.
But this is voluntary, we do not force anyone to leave campus,” added Iyer.
Incidentally, he said, most of the students infected in the IIT-G were scholars who began to return to campus from December 30.
“At present, there are more than 2,000 students on our campus.
Previously, we only allow undergraduate research and students, to whom the off-line practical classes are very necessary, to stay on campus after the second wave peaked,” said Iyer.
