Iit-Guwahati’s offer to develop hydrogen from water using sunlight

Guwahati: IIT Guwahati The researchers are developing cost-effective ingredients to produce energy-rich hydrogen from water using sunlight.
Solar energy is considered the most promising of the source of clean and renewable energy known today.
The novel materials are being developed, can use sunlight to divide water into hydrogen and oxygen.
“These ingredients are much cheaper than ‘precious metals’ are currently used and can cause a cost-effective solar hydrogen generator,” said a spokesman for IIT Guwahati.
While the “solar cell” which is commonly known to change light directly to electrical energy, there are other types of energy-powered energy conversion systems called “photoelecttrochemical” cells (PEC) (PEC) that have attracted attention several times because of their direct fuel production In combination.
electrical energy.
Cells using solar energy to divide simple and safe compounds such as water into hydrogen and oxygen, hydrogen into high-energy fuel that can be stored and used as needed.
Therefore these cells are considered ‘Holy Grail’ to a carbon-free hydrogen economy.
This is the research field for the team from the Chemistry Department in IIT Guwahati led by Mohammad Qureshi.
The team has reported a recent findings in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal of the American Chemical Society, Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.
This paper has been written together by Prof.
Mohammad Qureshi and Suhaib Alam.
The team has developed a non-Noble metal catalyst which is as good as expensive metal in splitting Pec Pec cells.
