Kanpur: India’s Institute of Technology (IIT-K) and Armament Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday.
The MoU was signed by Professor Achla M.
Raina, Dean of Academic Iit-Kanpur, and Gagan Chaturvedi, Deputy Director General (CCD and Human Resources) from the Armament Factory Agency.
Under this MoU, IIT-K will offer a master of design (M.Des) program that is adjusted for officers sponsored by OFB, which will help them design sophisticated weapons and weapons for Indian needs.
This is a unique academic program, the first in India, and maybe throughout Asia too.
This program will help OFB officers not only gain expertise in general design principles, but also in some specific technology of weapons.
Such special knowledge of industry is usually not available through regular engineering programs.
This program will also require students to carry out projects that will be directly relevant to the design area and production of weapons.
The initiative with IIT-K-OFB is equally parallel to the National Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan in the field of weapons in particular, and technology defense and products in general.
This program will also be very relevant to the Indian private sector companies that roam to the field of weapons systems.
