Patiala: Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the US have concurrently conceptualized portable optical sensing devices that can detect nitrogen content in plants and thus can help in optimizing.
Use of chemical fertilizers.
They said the advantages of using chemical fertilizers for several years have left humans exposed to hazardous chemicals through our ecosystem which ultimately affected their health.
To overcome this, IIT Ropar and MIT (USA) has collaborated under accurate optical sensing projects for efficient use of fertilizers and increased outcomes in small agriculture.
‘Under this project, analysis of costs / benefits for padded sensors and plants.
– Management practices in Punjab will be developed which will allow smaller farmers to make scientific decisions on optimal and sustainable fertilizer applications.
Rajeev RAM from the Department of Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, US and Rajesh Kumar, assistant professor of biomedical engineering in Iit-Ropar, India will work on portable optical sensors to provide fast and acquired data that can enable small farmers to manage.
Plants.
In particular, their research will explore the potential for the ‘fingerprint’ spectroscopy from the absorption of nitrogen for the management of better fertilizer peeling.
