PANAJI: Some illegal kiosks lined outside the Wall compound Medical College (GMC) Goa, and more than a dozen food traders, were finally removed on Thursday morning.
Some of them will be rehabilitated immediately.
Most vendors have established their businesses outside the hospital for a decade ago and, with the exception of five kiosks that have permission from local perfs, nothing else has the necessary licenses.
Some of the efforts made by hospital administration in the past to expel them were thwarted.
“We held a meeting with the Minister of Chief Pramod Sawant and he had assured that the original operator would be rehabilitated,” said St Andre Mla Francis Silveira to Ti after the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by St Cruz Mla Antonio Fernandes because some vendors came from their constituencies.
A total of 35 fruit vendors and gadda operators were influenced by the urge of the morning demolition brought by the administration of North Goa District.
Silveira said that most operators had carried out their business illegally, and few were permitted by Panchayat had established a permanent structure.
“Some of them have let Gaddas and their local residents operate the kiosk itself a little.
Only fruit vendors, all of which women, are locals,” he said.
CM says that those who have sub-let Gaddas they will not be rehabilitated.
Gaddas removal cannot be avoided because of widening the road.
“The road outside the hospital is forever solid.
Many park their vehicles along the road that interfere with traffic movements that are smooth and sometimes even ambulance.
However, we will try and help the original operator,” he said.
Fruit vendors and newspapers will soon be given space so they can continue their business.
Meeting with GMC Dean Dr.
S M Bandekar has been scheduled on Saturday, to decide how vendors can be accommodated.
Gadda operator rehabilitation will occur in one or two months, he said.
