Illegal slums with more than 400 cottages found on the coastal stretch

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), in relation to youth clubs in Behanamamaman and Meenakalya, have decided to launch the drive to make a stretch between good and meenacalya slums.
Nearly 400 emergency huts have appeared on the beach.
According to officials and locals, lodges have been rented to migrant workers, without providing a toilet.
As a result, families are forced to defecate in the open, thus littering.
Senior Health Inspector MCC Sushanth K told Ti that City Corporation had received several complaints from the local residents, about the conditions of the regions where the hut was built illegally.
“Young People Panambil and Yuvaka-Yuvathi Children Mandala Members have brought City Corporation notices about a large number of huts made of various types of sheets built by several local residents.
They collect almost Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 per head as rent from Migrant workers.
Some owners have more than 150 warehouses are leased to migrant workers, without providing basic facilities such as small rooms and toilets.
Because the lodge of this single room is not connected to the underground drainage system, the local residents are afraid to cause the area and the sea to be polluted , “Saidanth said.
Yathish is good, the former CEO, the Panambur Tourism Development Project, said that to create awareness about cleanliness, the youth club in the area will arrange a Swachhata campaign in the coast stretch from Panambur to Meanakalya, on Sunday.
“The villagers will unite to make the coast stretch free of illegal huts, and keep the area clean.
The awareness program is planned to bring problems with the administrative notification of the District and City Corporation,” he added.
Commissioner MCC Akshy Sridhar said, “Those who live in illegal slums on the beach must be emptied and accommodated again.
We are discussing modalities.”
