Doha: Danny Fenster American journalist said he was healthy and happy to go home after being released from prison in Myanmar and flew to Qatar on Monday, after negotiations between the former US Richardson diplomat and the powerful military junta.
Fenster, 37, the executive editor of the Frontier of Myanmar’s online magazine, looked weak on arrival at Hamad International Airport in Doha but he had not been beaten when he was arrested.
“I feel great and very happy to be able to go home.
I am very happy for all that Bill has done,” he told reporters at Tarmac, referring to Richardson’s intervention.
Fenster was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Friday for incitement and violations of the law on immigration and unlawful assemblies, decisions that attract international criticism.
He flew out of Myanmar with Richardson.
