Immediately, automatic piezometer to check water levels in the city

Gurgaon: To improve water level monitoring in the city, the Metropolitan Development Authority Gurugram plans to use an automatic piezometer, the device to help determine groundwater pressure at the points where they are installed.
Initially, 10 such devices would be installed in “closed campuses”, such as Parks, enhancing stations and waste treatment plants, with an estimated cost of Rs 50 Lakh.
“Previously, the district hydology was used to set piezometer to monitor the surface of the water, but the device was all manuals and their readings were taken for only three years – pre-monsoon, during the rainy season and after the monsoon.
Our plan now is to put an automatic piezometer and connect it to the center Our integrated commands and controls so we get daily data for a full year, “said Subash Chander Yadav, additional CEO, Urban Environment Division.
This problem was also raised last year at a meeting led by Keshni Anand Arora, Chairperson, Water Resources Authority Haryana.
It was decided later GMDA had to install piezometer in urban areas for better water monitoring in the view of “thinning due to greater exploitation”.
“We don’t want anyone to damage the device so that for now, we will only put it on a closed campus where someone is always present,” Yadav said.
