Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) filed a police complaint, and has decided to fence down the Phalguni River Bank in Bangrakuloor, after alleged river encroachment.
Apart from awareness and warnings on the part of the authorities, throwing debris into the Phalguni River continuing the stretch between Bagrakuloor and Kuloor in the city.
Nearly two hectares of rivers have been converted to TPA by people, who dispose of debris, including plastic waste, with flouuting rules.
While the violation took place for several months, MCC finally took a problem seriously.
Commissioner MCC Akshy Sridhar told TI that City Corporation would do what was needed to protect the river.
“We have filed a complaint against diluting debris at the riverbed at the Kavoor Police Station on Saturday.

PKS also has a plan to install CCTV cameras on stretches, to see vehicles carrying debris to the banks of the river, he added.
