Lucknow: Like the Barbanki tragedy that finished 18 live on Wednesday morning, at least 42 people were killed in five separate accidents triggered by direct collisions between vehicles that drove and parked on the roadside.
These victims occurred for one year in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, mostly on the highway.
But no lessons learned.
Police actions were followed in two cases – Auraiya, where 26 migrant workers were destroyed to death last year and Kannauj, where six people died in February.
In another accident, there was no arrest carried out after fir.
In three accidents claiming 10 lives in Sant Kabir Nagar, Hardoi and Balrampur districts, police failed to track the driver who parked their vehicles on the highway.
When TII spoke with Sho Khalilabad, Manoj Pandey, he said an investigation was delayed to the incident of Sant Kabir Nagar who hung down four families after their van crashed into a truck stranded in Overbridge Digha on May 23.
Likewise, in Hardoi, three people were killed while the other four were injured after the car crashed into a stationary truck parked on Jalan Hardoi-Shahjahanpur on December 7, 2020.
There was no arrest that had been done until now.
In Balkrampa, three families died after their car crashed into a stationary truck on October 30, 2020.
Here too, the police failed to make a breakthrough.
There was no technical evaluation of the destroyed vehicle made or a fitness certificate scanned by the police, who did not understand when TII asked them in Fridy.
Also, there is no effort by the police or the Department of Road to install signage at crossing or vulnerable turns, according to the rules of the National Highway Authority of India.
