Bengaluru: The country crossed the milestone of the history of one billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday and Karnataka played its role by removing a dose of 1.5 lakh until 19:00.
The state has provided a total of 6.2 crores since January 16, when the vaccine was launched.
These include the first 4.1 crore dose and more than two doses of both crore.
To mark the milestone of state history from one billion Jab, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanaagara Palike (BBMP) made a special vaccination drive for students in the Ramnarayan Chellaram College of Commerce government and management where 400 students were given the opportunity.
Most are the second dose recipient.
“College opened back after the Dasara holiday and we vaccinated 400 students from the title section,” said Dr.
Syed Ismail Akez, medical officer, Vasanth Nagar, BBMP, who pioneered the drive.
“Most of them have taken their first dose and are waiting for an 84 day interval to complete to take the second dose.” Many government-managed vaccination centers installed selfies standing for people to click on images on Thursday’s “landmark”.
Meanwhile, Karnataka has planned Mega Drive on Friday and officials have set a target of 30 lakh doses.
“At present, the state has covered 84% of the population that qualifies with the first doses and 42% with the second dose.
On Friday, we plan to give 30 doses of lakh during a special drive,” said Arundhathi Chandrashekar, director of the mission, urban health mission National.
He said there was no shortage of vaccine doses because the state had a 50 lakh dose stock like on Thursday.
The focus of the vaccination drive has now shifted to cover the second-qualified dose receiver (those who have completed an 84 day interval).
Can be recalled that on September 17, during the Lasika drive, the country occupied the country with a record 31.7 dose of lakh given in one day.
