New Delhi: In a second Minister of the first Union – Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari – will board the Indian Air Force this week, which will use a national highway in Barmer in Rajasthan to make mocking emergency landings.
The ministers will officially inaugurate the air foundation of 3.5 km-long, which is the first on any national highway (NH) in this country.
The source said two such air foundations on the national highway had been completed in Andhra Pradesh and two were in development, each in West Bengal and J & K.
Tender had floated for four other trips on the national highway.
Initially, 28 national highway stretches were identified to develop it as air foundations for emergency landings by fighter aircraft.
Sources say experts visit various places to assess the land situation.
It was identified near the international border in America including J & K, Punjab, Gujarat and West Bengal.
In 2016, the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highway have announced the joint committee settings between ministers with the Ministry of Defense and the IAF to see the feasibility of setting this strip.
At present, one strip operates at Lucknow-Agra Expressway at Uttar Pradesh.
Some countries, including Germany, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Finland, Switzerland and Singapore have been dedicated stretching on the highway and freeway to land and take off in an emergency.
