Panaji: After Arunachal Pradesh 18.2%, Goa has a second highest percentage of a single teacher school in the country, at 16%.
According to the UNESCO education education report for India 2021 ‘, Goa has 239 single teacher schools.
The number of these schools in the state rose from 230 years ago, which was demonstrated by the data of the Ministry of Education.
To blame this scenario in Goa is an ancient norm followed by the Directorate of State Education (DOE), which makes elementary school qualify for the second teacher only if they have 24 student registration or more.
It has taken victims in government elementary schools in the state, which wrestle with low number of students.
The government elementary school is pushed into the demon cycle because it has one teacher means fewer children motivated to join schools, and fewer children mean not qualify for the second teacher, according to state norms.
Of the 1,486 schools in Goa, 239 is a single school, stating the UNESCO report.
At one point, the number of schools like that in Goa reached nearly 350.
However, assistance under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan had helped second teacher allotment in many government elementary schools, pulled them out of a difficult situation.

In accordance with the DOE official, the teachers also helped a single teacher school rotation.
But being a single teacher school means that the teacher does not only teach alone from class I to IV, it also means that the school does not qualify for head teachers or clergy staff to carry out administrative tasks because of the low.
This means that a single teacher is burdened with these tasks too every day.
However, the UNESCO report also shows an encouraging sign, where Goa has a second percentage of female teachers in this country.
Having more female teachers is seen as a good sign, because the quality is more nurtured which is associated with women’s educators.
