Gurgaon: The decision of the central government to increase the age of marriage of girls from 18 to 21 years has compiled Khap and Lado Panchayats against each other in the state.
Calling it as a move that empowered at a meeting on Tuesday, Lado Panchayat participants openly asked the opposition the Khap leaders to the proposal, which claimed to be influenced by the community.
On Tuesday, a ban on children’s wedding bills (amendments), who seek to increase the age of female marriages from 18 to 21 years, sent to the parliamentary committee for supervision after being introduced at Lok Sabha.
Union Cabinet on December 15 cleared the proposal to increase the age of marriage law for women to carry it on par with men.
However, Khap leaders are not happy with the central proposal and plan to submit the concept of objection, said the source.
About 150 Khap Panchayats across Haryana also plans to hold ‘Mahapachayat’ in Jind District on December 23.
“If the age of electing boys can be 18 years old and a 21-year marriage, then why not the same for girls? Those who oppose this step must ask girls and women who live in villages about however they want steps Like that, “Sheetal Loura (22), a resident of Balsamand Village in the District of Hisar, said.
Monika Bazzad is twenty-three years old from Rohtak condemning a statement issued by several Khap leaders in Haryana and rises that increasing the age of marriage will give women “time to roam” and “damage their character”.
“Such a statement is sickening,” he said.
Dev Vrat Dhanda, the upcoming Mahapechayat organizer, meanwhile, said they would discuss the social and legal implications of this step before reaching conclusions.
“If a young girl and not smart enough to enter college, then parents will not want to wait (for him to reach 21 years) but want to make their daughter get married earlier.
Also, if this decision is implemented only for Hindus, then that is Will be wrong, “Dhanda said.
Responding to Mahapachayat December 23, Lado Panchayat has also called for a massive meeting in Meerut.
“The decision has been taken for the benefit of women, so they must be allowed to form an opinion about it,” Sunil Jaglan said, the organizer of Lado Panchayat, said.
