Panaji: More than 7,500 children aged 15-18 years took their first dose vaccine on Tuesday.
The immunology of State Dr.
Rajendra Borkar said that Monday’s number was updated and stood at 8,500.
Similarly, Tuesday counts will also be updated.
“We have been able to vaccinate 20% of the 15-18 target population in two days.
We hope to complete this population in a week before vaccination begins for health care and front-line workers on January 10,” said Dr.
Borkar.
When asked about all the adverse effects after the vaccination of teenagers, Dr.
Borkar said there was no serious case.
“We have two cases of fainting that can occur with injections but they recover in five to ten minutes and return,” he told reporters.
“It is necessary to get this age group vaccinated to protect them and parents and those who have comorbidity before they can become super spreaders.
All parents must bring their children to school to be vaccinated,” he said.
Reacting to the WhatsApp message that claimed the expired vaccine was being used, Director of Health Services, Dr.
Ira Almeida told reporters on Tuesday that Goa had received around 75,000 covaxin doses which ended in September 2022 and people did not need to worry.
Dr.
Almeida said most of them had fallen ill and surrendered to Covid-19 were those who were not vaccinated.
He added, “with 95% vaccinated population, the state does not have to panic because there is a big difference between the second and third wave.” Vaccination for the 15-18 year category is held based on rotation in schools with some not starting their vaccination sessions.
Although the Ministry of Health guidelines do not make written approval from mandatory parents, the Ministry of Health initially circulating forms and schools ensure that parents give their agreement.
The target population of children aged 15-18 years is 74,192 and the country has received around 75,000 doses expecting another dose of lakh.
Teens will take their second dose of Covaxin after 28 days.
Epidemiology of the State Dr.
Utkarsh Betodar told reporters that Covid patients are currently being treated in hospitals are those who are not vaccinated or have a commorbid condition, where diabetes is not controlled in the list.
796 Others in category 18+ took their first dose of vaccines on Tuesday and 2,478 their second dose.
