BJP has won the Mayem assembly chair for the last three terms and in an effort to defend the fort, dropping MLA Pravin Zantye.
BJP won the Zilla Parishad chair from Mayem and Karapur-Sarvan last year, but the party did not seem to have trust in Zantye.
Instead, they placed their faith in the Premendra Shet, who had lost the Mayem ZP election of 126 votes.
In fact, the Shet first joined MGP, but with BJP want to have it on their side, switch loyalty.
Shet is a brother of the former Mayem Mla and Anant speaker.
Besides Zantye (now MGP) and Shet, Mayem Battlefield will witness the five-fighting fight with Rajesh Kalangutkar (AAP), Santosh Kumar Sawant (Goa Forward) and Shrikrishna Parab of Revolutionary Goans Party in Fray.
Prospective contests have their own strengths, and weaknesses.
While Zantye is a former MLA and has a big point to prove, Shet and Kalangutkar opposed the election of Zilla Parishad, without results.
The second finished shet behind Shankar Chodankar BJP in Zilla’s poll, while Kalangutkar was third, finally settled for AAP tickets and kicked his campaign in front of the other.
However, a maid near Kalangutkar, was studied so as not to love her decision to compete in the AAP banner.
GFP’s Sawant opposed the selection of the last assembly on the congressional ticket and finished the second behind Zantye.
The riots in the Mayem Block Congress did not help their purposes.
Zantye, former MLA, has been active in Mayem politics for more than a decade.
After being rejected by a ticket, he left BJP and joined the MGP which had a considerable influence in the election.
Zantye has its own voice bank, because of its long career in politics and family history with Pastor Harish became MLA three times, the minister of cabinet and North Goa Parliament Member.
“BJP has no choice but to drop Zantye because there is anti-breeders strong towards him,” said one source of the party.
“Mayem Mandal also complains that he cannot be accessed by the public.” Parab, debuted with revolutionary goans, has been able to attract youth in the electoral district when promising to bring change in Goan’s politics.
Political observer said because there were too many candidates in Mayem, BJP could enjoy a slight advantage with his strong organization in the election.
Development has had a brief supply in Mayem, who did not have a representation in the cabinet since 2002, even though it was in the MLA from the powerful party.
Mayem is one of the constituencies in the mining belt, and the closure of activity is now a point of talk.
Evakuee property, lack of tourism infrastructure, public transport and market complex are some other problems here.
It would be interesting to see how those who depend on mine voting in Mayem because the activity has stopped since March 2018.
BJP bet in Mayem, dropping his MLA.
After winning it three times in a row, they must know what they are doing.
But with new children in the block, this must be an interesting battle to watch.
