In the history of the test cricket, we have seen various types of scores posted in the first inning of the match by both teams.
The score size is very dependent on conditions, tones, quality teams, how strong or fragile batting order and bowling attack team are etc.
One trend that appears is the overall test score seems to go down in the first round.
Lately, one characteristic that seems to be common in most of the main teams is the fragility of batting and reinforcement bowling and especially fast bowling attacks.
Most of the major teams such as India, Australia, England, New Zealand and Pakistan have a very good Bowler that is very good in their ranks, while batting, at least on paper, is not the strongest, as a collective unit.
Is the constant days 400, 500 plus the current score of history? Let’s look at a few numbers, take 400 pluses total as a benchmark.
From 1990 to 2000, there were a total of 190 instances from both teams that scored 400 pluses in the first inning of the trial match.
That number rose to 337 in the next decade, from 2001 to 2010.
However, from 2011 to 2021 the number, from the two teams that posted 400 plus a total in the first round of the test match down to 258.

In South Africa, for example the 200-250 target is also sometimes not easy to reach in the fourth inning match.

And from 2011 to 2021, the instance of the two teams scored less than 200 in the first round of the test match rose further to 161.

Of the top 10 innings over total in the history of the test cricket, as many as 9 were scored in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan or the Caribbean.
The highest inning test of all time, so far, has been the Mammoth 952-6 stated by Sri Lanka in their first round (second round of the match) from the Colombo vs India test in 1997.
The highest 61st innings in total in historical cricket tests were 650 -6 stated by Australia against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1965.
From 2010 until now, in the list of 61 of the highest total test of all time, there were only 12 instances of the excessive score from 650-6 Australia stated in 1965.
