WASHINGTON: Special representatives and EU special envoys, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, England and the US met in Oslo on January 24 to discuss situations in Afghanistan, including sessions with representatives from Taliban actors and civil society.
In a shared statement, Western envoys emphasized the urgent need to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and highlight the steps needed to help alleviate the suffering of Afghans throughout the country.
The participants recognized the steps taken to facilitate access to humanitarian, men and women, while also expressing concerns that there were still certain obstacles, and participants also reaffirmed the importance of eliminating all conditions and obstacles to sending humanitarian aid, added statements.
They raise the importance of respecting human rights and strong needs for inclusive and representative political systems to ensure peaceful stability and future for Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the envoy clarified that their meeting with the Taliban did not imply an official recognition or the legitimization of the Temporary Government announced by the Taliban in September 2021.
Talks in Oslo occurred in response to a request of a number of Afghan organizations and in consultation with Western allies.
On Sundays, meetings throughout the day occurred between Taliban delegates and other Afghans from various backgrounds.
These include female leaders, journalists, and people who work to protect human rights and overcome humanitarian, economic, social and political problems.
On Monday, the meeting took place between the Taliban and representatives specifically for Afghanistan from Norway and other Western countries.
