VALPOI: Flood July 23 may have washed out the house of Tolyo Gawade in Kankire at Sattari Taluka, but not his determination to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.
Interested in honoring obstacles, he had installed an elephant-headed idol in the tarpaulin tent near his house which collapsed.
Gawade works as a helper and belongs to small tribal settlements scheduled in Kankire Village.
His house was one of the three who collapsed during the flood two months ago.
Ganesh Chaturthi has now renewed her hopes that assistance to rebuild her house, and life, will be more advanced.
Although Gawade received RS 1 Lakh compensation from the state government, he said too little to rebuild his house.
“The government must understand that a small amount of money is not enough.
Therefore, we are looking for more financial assistance,” he said.
“Minister of Health and Local Mla Vishwajit Rane has promised that he will rebuild my house with his own money and urge me not to get support from social groups.
Two months have passed, but there is no progress,” he ruaja.
For now, he and his family are 10 live in a rented house nearby and hope better days will illuminate them soon.
While distributing a relief letter to at least 150 beneficiaries, RANE has said that financial assistance is given as a top priority for the villages of Sattari and USGAO which are flooded.
He also said that the state government tried to reach residents in all circumstances.
