Kolhapur: With a few days left for Diwali, the city market is flooded with lanterns, lights, and other articles.
In the midst of a pandemic situation, it has been observed that people prefer to buy products made in India and traditional eco-friendly items.
Chinese items and lanterns have been ruled out on the market.
The traders also featured products ‘only in India’ in their shops and kiosks.
Sohail Bagwan, a kiosk owner in Paan Lane sells Lanterns, said, “People prefer traditional stylish lanterns.
Chinese lanterns are truly out of the market and no kiosks seen showing Chinese lanterns.
This year, designer lanterns are made in bamboo and New metal lanterns on the market.
“While most stalls in Kolhapur have also featured environmentally friendly lanterns made of paper and bamboo.
Sachin Gatade, a kiosk owner at Mahadwar Road said, “We have displayed lanterns made of color paper, cloth and bamboo.
When people realize pollution caused by plastic, environmentally friendly items are in demand.
Lantern fees fall in the RS range 200 to 3500.
“The Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce also appealed to all the traders to refrain from selling Chinese products and thus all traders have agreed to the same.
