New Delhi: For the first time, the estimated elephant population and tigers will be carried out in convergence next year, unlike previous exercises in which both animals separately are counted in different years.
“There is a need to improve the estimated population method along a more scientific line,” said Minister of Environment Bhupender Yadav while releasing a joint population’s estimated training protocol on the world elephant day on Thursday.
Emphasizing the involvement of indigenous and customary communities in elephant conservation, said Yadav said the approach would also help minimize the human-elephant conflict too.
This procedure will involve statistical analysis “from land data on signs of animal, human impact, habitat attributes and absolute density”
