In the first, Goa might get a green booth made by craftsmen for the 2022 election

PANAJI: Not often considered a lot given to the fact that the selection produces a lot of non-biodegradable materials, which are used in campaigns and in polling booths.
Now, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, and the County Biodiversity Council of Goa (GSBB) has taken the initiative to design a model for environmentally friendly selection booths with completely classified material.
This concept is expected to be carried out at least one room per taluka for the upcoming 2022 state poll.
The material used at the booth is not only environmentally friendly, but has been made entirely by local traditional craftsmen from Sattari and Ponda.
“Many non-biodegradable materials are produced during the election, so this green booth concept has been made, using the materials that are fully sourced locally friendly,” said Secretary of the GSBB Pradip Sarmokadam member.
“Also, having a green booth also means that instead of involving the contractor, the money spent to make material for green poll booth like it will go to local craftsmen.
A decision has not been taken about how this can be implemented, but this is the first time Also it has proposed this green booth idea and it is the beginning.
“A selfie booth has also been created by craftsmen, where voters can pose posting pollings.
“The new environmentally friendly Selfie Board is made for the election of Goa.
It was made locally by craftsmen under GSBB using bamboo and other materials.
#Gready to choose,” said Chief Electoral Officer Kunal at the social media post.
Sunyakant Gaonkar from Bhuipal, Sattari, Navso Parwar from Saleli, Sattari, and Shailesh Mangesh Chari, are the main craftsmen where the Green Booth model has been made.
“The booth has been made mainly by weaving bamboo and coconut leaves.
We involve many young people from Sattari, including Sister Navso Pramila, to execute work.
Some decorations have also been made by weaving with Hay originating from rice fields,” said Gaonkar.
“There are not many who are aware of Goa’s handicrafts, even in the country,” said Gaonkar, who won the State Biodiversity award 2020 for his work promoting the use of environmental colors and decorations that are environmentally friendly.
“And I think even if one or two green booths are established for upcoming state polls, it will help increase awareness about this expertise.
We will involve traditional craftsmen and work under their guidance, if the booth is approved.
We will involve self-help groups Local women also to execute work.
